Multiplexer

The 81107 circuit board is a single line multiplexer.
Communications are medium speed; 32.5 kbaud for
RS422 or 125 kbaud for fiber optics. Eight channels
(A-H) are provided; any channel may be connected
to a standard 81034 channel (i.e. channel A, B, or C,
or any combination of the previous). The 81107 can
be compared to an 8 channel opto coupler and in fact
serves the same function. A typical use of the 81107
is in large systems where up to eight cable runs between
buildings, or remote locations, can be placed
with a 2 pair twisted, shielded cable or a duplex fiber
optic cable. The economic benefit in using the 81107
as a single line multiplexer is realized only where the
board replaces the 8 to 16 opto couplers presently
used for communications or where extremely long
cable runs between processor groups are encountered.
In the latter case, the fiber optic option is suggested
because it has an effective range of approximately
2 kilometers.
The 81107 (B version and above) can also be used
to interface an IBM ™ compatible computer along
with MTI’s 51113 to field devices. The 51107 (B
version and above) can be configured for many different
applications.
